Melbourne based multi-instrumentalist and producer Dave Mudie has unveiled his new solo project, the somewhat mysteriously titled LA Mood. Mudie is known for his work as the full-time drummer for Courtney Barnett, and also performs with bands like The Ronson Hangup, Royston Vasie, Danny Walsh and Melbourne garage outfit Gumboot.
For his feature as part of Split Singles Club, Mudie has chosen the country twang of Virgin Song, which features Barnett on backing vocals and slide guitar.
His debut EP, Crushing Highs and Amazing Lows, was recorded throughout 2015 at Revolver Studios in Portland, and produced by Collin Hegna of The Brian Jonestown Massacre. On this first release, Mudie showcases a broad range of styles and influences.
Crushing Highs and Amazing Lows was inspired while working with some of the best musicians in Australia and around the world. Given his position in Courtney Barnett's live band, Mudie has toured consistently, recording numerous albums, EP's and singles with some of the finest musicians around. As the title suggests, Crushing Highs ossicilates wildly from the relief of finding a lost pet to the paranoia and self-doubt when navigating everyday life. Out soon via Hotel Motel.
